Our congregation has been blessed from the beginning. The disaffiliation vote failed at Moss Bluff UMC, on April 30, 2023, and about 30 of us “walked”. On May 7, we had an organizational meeting led by Philip Langley in Moss Bluff, during which 68 persons from the area whose disaffiliation has also failed, met in the local library to determine our next step. Jason Burnham, the Global Methodist Executive Director, gave a brief sermon at the meeting. By May 21, we had a location in Lake Charles to hold church in the Lake Charles First Church of the Nazarene, 3940 Holly Hill Road, Lake Charles, LA. On May 24, a few from Moss Bluff met and agreed that our group would be happier to meet in Moss Bluff for church. We set out to locate a site. The location was found by Jana Cormier. On June 4, we met in the Moss Bluff Masonic Lodge, 573 Koonce Road, Moss Bluff, LA for a church service with communion. We had a Baptist minister who brought the message. By June 11, God had sent us a retired Bible Church minister, Robert Jones, who was interested in serving us. He has been with us since and is in the process of submitting his paperwork to become ordained in the Global Methodist Church. We continued to discuss possible locations which would be more conducive to having church services and growing our congregation. The Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 2968 US 171 N, Moss Bluff, LA., was contacted by Sandy McNeely Duhon. They reacted favorably. There were conversations with member’s of both churches. MBGMC board of directors met with the board of the Nazarene church and terms were discussed. We agreed on a time for us to meet and rent. They said we could use the church as we would if it were our own and could start immediately. Their facility has a sanctuary, a nursery, a kitchen, an office, a Sunday School room, a storage room and 2 restrooms. After church at the Masonic Lodge 7/23, the proposal was put to the membership, and it was agreed to join the Nazarene’s in their church building beginning 7/30. We also decided to hold our Bible study on 7/26 at the new location. In July we officially became a Global Methodist Church. Moss Bluff Global Methodist Church held its Dedication Service, on September 10, 2023, including Communion and followed with a covered dish luncheon. Our Presiding Elder in Southwest Louisiana Chris Blanchard was in attendance and spoke words of encouragement. The following became members of the Moss Bluff Global Methodist Church and the East Texas/Louisiana/Arkansas Conference of the Global Methodist Church: (names of those present). It was an extremely blessed day. We are a small congregation at this time but are poised to grow now that we’re in a location that provides room for growth. We are ready and anticipating God’s next provision. There is no doubt that God has His hand on us. Our name changed to Cornerstone Global Methodist Church in February of 2024.
